TT#2 The Digital Age Conundrum

Food for Thought:

In my last post, I discussed the multitude of technological resources available and expressed how important it was for teachers to change up their content medium to avoid boring our attention-deficient pupils. Ironically, when I think of the amount of time we willingly devote to technology, particularly social media, I can't help but feel like maybe instead we need to banish technology and have our lessons in a forest. Mother Nature will forever be my favourite teacher.

The key is of course balance. We must balance our time spent in the digital world, that's a given but I think it's important that we balance what we use technology for as well. When teachers use Educational Technology, we are making our lessons more engaging, while inadvertently showcasing that our devices can do more than just scroll TikTok or stream Netflix. The fact of the matter is that the digital world poses more implications for learning than it does benefits, but it was the digital world that saved learning during the pandemic. So, essentially instead of limiting screen-time, we are enforcing it.

Makes you wonder.

  1. Great post, I love how you worded this!! I completely agree with you and think that balance is so important when using technology in the classroom, we need to be careful that we do not over use it and like you said end up enforcing the use of technology on out students.
